Twitch emote sizes

Twitch can make the smaller sizes for you from one big image, but small emotes often look blurry that way. Uploading all three sizes yourself keeps them sharp.

How to upload emotes on Twitch

  1. Drop your emote into the box above. Start from art at least 112 px across, ideally bigger.
  2. Turn on Trim empty edges and check the 28 px version on the dark and light chat backgrounds.
  3. Download the three sizes, or the whole set as a zip.
  4. In your Twitch Creator Dashboard, go to Viewer Rewards, then Emotes, and upload each size in its own slot.

Common questions

What size are Twitch emotes?

28 × 28, 56 × 56 and 112 × 112 pixels, as square PNGs (or GIFs for animated emotes), each under 1 MB.

Do I have to upload all three sizes?

No. Twitch's simple upload takes one large image and makes the rest. The advanced upload takes all three, which looks sharper at 28 px. This tool gives you all three either way.

Can I resize animated Twitch emotes?

Yes. Drop in a GIF and every frame is resized with its timing kept. The file sizes are shown so you can check they're under 1 MB before you upload.

Why does my emote look blurry at 28 px?

Detail that works at 500 px disappears at 28 px. Use bold shapes and thick outlines, and turn on Trim empty edges so the art fills the square.

Are my emotes uploaded anywhere?

No. The resizing happens in your browser, so your art never leaves your device.
